Let’s be honest: mercury UV bulbs are the real workhorses of the printing and coating world. They just get the job done. But here’s the thing—we don’t just toss these in a box and ship them out. That’s a recipe for disaster. We actually look at your line speed and what’s in your ink to make sure the lamp actually fits your setup. If you’re running high-speed offset or screen printing, the spectral output is everything. It’s the difference between ink that cures all the way down to the substrate and ink that just “skins over,” leaving you with a sticky mess. Power and the Balancing Act Inside these lamps, you’ve got a mercury arc. When you hit it with high voltage through a quartz envelope, it kicks out a concentrated blast of UV light. We offer different wattages because every conveyor speed is different. Higher wattage means more punch (irradiance), which lets you crank up the line speed without worrying about under-cured ink. But you can’t just blast it. If you put too much power in too small a space, you’ll scorch your paper or PET. It’s a bit of a balancing act.
